I survivied a 4 cent doctor

So I have been sick now for two weeks. I was coughing and coughing and my nose would not stop running. Every night I thought that I was getting better and than it would be really bad in the morning. The Lord gave me enough strength to go to 3 Valentine's Day parties with cookies, peanuts and numkey { a spicy trail mix}. But the next day I was really sick again and was praying that I would not have to go to the doctor. There is a lot of things that I can do without, but I do love our good ole fashion clean doctor's offices. By Monday I knew that I needed a doctor, but still tried to fight it. On Tuesday, I was crying, I could not swallow because my throat was so sore and I was afraid that I would have to go on a motorbike to the doctor. Another boy had a headache so a driver took both of us to the doctor.
I was so scared. I have never had a fear of anything, but I am so afraid here of Aids and HIV. At school one of the kids was bleeding and my whole body went into shock. Someone got a band aid and I helped them but was sure that I got no blood on me. I know all the facts but it is a lot different when you do not know the child's background or you are on your way to go to the doctor and I know that they do not have sterilizing kits for the needles.
So we get there and we are waiting inside, a guy walks up and tells me to stand up and grasp all of the chairs to move them outside. I was standing there thinking, he just moved the whole waiting room outside. Of course there was a nasty dog now hanging out with us. Finally it was time to go in, they asked me my name ( Kelly is not a common name) and my age. Than I went to another room where he asked me what was wrong and took my pulse. He gave me 3 medicines and I was done. I wanted to cry, he never looked at my throat and was frustrated because I kept asking him to repeat what he was saying, since I have so much stuff in my ears from the cold. To top it off, the boy with the head ache got the SAME medicine that I got! In the end, I have gotten better and I did not have to go to a real doctor.
But, a 4 cent doctor that gives out medicine that works, you can't beat that with a stick!
The Lords has taught me a lot this week as I lay in bed (watching my lizard friend come in and out of the wall)
1. I am so blessed to have been able to afford to go to the doctor and I did when I was younger. That is a real luxury. They said that the medicine is really expensive( it was $2).
2. Having a new family in India that will take care of me because I am homesick and all I want is my Mom and chicken noodle soup, they invited me in me in, made tea and cooked me noodles, the noodle were spicy, but I can not taste anything.
3. Knowing that at times my faith will be tested, but will bring me closer to God. It is so amazing the way that in every sitituation I feel like I fall deeper in love with Jesus.
Pray... that the time that we are with the boys is multiplied in their hearts.

Things that I love....

The mountains in Missorri
My kitty, Billy
Having girl parties with henna
My Boys
I have none of the things that I thought that I needed in the states-
no phone, no TV, no car, no boots or fancy clothes, no social life….
But this is the happiest I have ever been!
I pray that everyone can feel this joy that I have by being with these boys.
Pray Request:
That those around us HEAR TRUTH, SPEAK TRUTH, LIVE TRUTH!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

200 rupess

So I have reached a big step in my adventure, I have finally realized that I am actually here. I was watching a movie and at the end when we turned on the lights I was like where am I and what is on my hands. We had a girls only party, there were almost 30 girls from the school that came over to our house from sixth to eighth grade. We had food, made friendship bracelets, and did henna. Our days are full of planning for class, grading papers, and being with the boys. It is cricket seasons so the boys practice a lot. I was playing but when the older boys practice they are very serious and they usually do not want me on their team, I get the hint. But over all it has been so fun. I have pretty much got all their names down and they do not hind under their blankets when I give them good night kisses. I thought that it was hard to put three kids to bed when I babysat but 10 little boys are a lot harder.
There are situations that are very hard to handle. I went into the office to get something and there was the cutest little girl maybe around 4 years old with a huge black eye. I was praying that she had gotten in a car accident but knew that was not the case. I later asked Frieda, who has started both the school and the home, what happened she told me that her mother had beat her. She was so small, I had no clue what she could have done to deserve this. There is no DCFS here and the police really do not deal with these types of situations. Frieda talked to the mom and said that she was crying and than said that she had a pay 200 rupees (around $4) because the little girl is at her school and that the mom had damaged school property. Frieda said that money talks here and that hopefully it will not happen again. Another hard issue is that some of the boys were born in the slums so they do not have birth certificates, they do not know their real age or birthday.
Prayer Request:
That the boys will ask questions. In India they never ask questions and if you ask someone something and they do not know it they will tell you something else just so that they do not look like they do not know.
That these boys will feel loved. There are 45 boys here and no matter how much time you spend with them there are not enough of us.
That there will be more people to come and help!
Calling all trained teachers... WE NEED YOUR HELP.

I love elecricity!

I am sorry that I have not been able to post. I wanted to stay and play cricket instead of going into town. Than today I walked all the way into town and there was no power.

So, new news I am a first grade teacher!!! It is difficult, I just got my second class calmed down and now they put me with this wild class. One of the boys needs A LOT of attention, I have to hold him the whole time or he walks around and takes the other kids things. I went in the room the other day and saw that he had stole my marker!!!! I did not even know that it was gone. I keep taffy in my pocket and tell him if he sits still I will give it to him a break. I was going to ask everyone to pray that we get internet, but as we speak one of the Uncles said that we will get it in a couple of days. Which in India means in a week or so. I will write more when I have time. Please if anyone has advise about working in first class lpease let me know I feel a little overwelmed.
