I have been really busy and have not been able to use the Internet. Grading papers, writing lesson plans, playing, helping with homework, doing and planning devotions, always planning and sharing ideas. We always read bed time stories to them, I found this cute book about Mother Teresa and read it one night. I was crying because the boys I was reading it to were the children that were in the story. Boys that would be on the streets, that if this place was not here, they would be begging . It was a cute book, but I think that I am going to stick to The Giving Tree and Sammy the Seal.
We did Ash Wednesday last week. It was really powerful. They had never practiced it or never took part in celebrating communion. There was no power so we sat outside with the light of the moon all 10 boys in a little circle. We had bread and guava juice for and I had them write their sins on a little piece of paper. They all needed me to spell beating for them. Even though twenty minutes later they were hitting each other. Boys will be boys. We are doing a Reserection Journey, which getting ready for Easter. We anticipate Christmas the day after Thanksgiving we are now on a journey through the last 40 days of Jesus life. I am learning a lot. The one thing that I am most surprised by is the fact that in my mind I came here to help and teach these boys, but in the end they are helping and changing my heart. I love learning from them and finding out how much I need to change in my life. I feel really selfish all the time and the boys are so amazing that they still love me no matter what.
The younger boys had test last week and the older boys are taking their exams this week. All they do is study. I have started running, which is really good, but now all the boys are studying and will not take a break to come with me. One of the boys who was going a lot is not able to go because the soles on his shoes are too thin and it hurts to much. Of course I would love to buy him a new pair, but than you have to buy for everyone. He will not be able to run till June when they get new shoes.
Over the weekend I stayed with the boys which is a really big responsibility, but I brought bananas for breakfast and this morning I woke up and made 20 eggs in a little pan for them, they were so excited. There is a lot of changes going on, so I need to get ready. My room mate left the other day to go home which is really weird, but there are new people coming next week. It is always changing.
The weather is beautiful!!! I say the same thing every day, "I wish that every day could be like this!" They opened the pool but I have not gone swimming. We have off the next two days so maybe I will jump in, fully clothed of course.
Prayer Request:
Pray for their families.
I am so blessed to be able to share in these boys lives, their parents are missing out on so much. Some parents are not able to afford to provide for their boys and others are to sick. Pray that the Lord will bless them.
